Jarrah Crowder

My name is Jarrah Crowder and I am 17 years old. I was born in the Port Lincoln hospital in 1993. For the first few years of my life I travelled around Australia with my parents. When I was 7 I lived at Yalata at the Head of the Bight. I was the only non Aboriginal kid at school with about 70 Anangu kids. Mum and Dad were always able to spot me in the crowd.  Living at Yalata taught me many wonderful cultural ways about the Aboriginal people.

We returned to Port Lincoln in 2003, where I attended Port Lincoln Primary School.  I am now in Year 11 at Port Lincoln High School, where I am currently doing a school based apprenticeship with Baldwin’s Plumbing & Gas.

My fundraising choice is ADAM house.  ADAM house is a support house here in Port Lincoln where people with disabilities live with the support of wonderful carers. There are 4 adults with various needs who live in the house.  I would like to create awareness about ADAM house and its function in Port Lincoln.

With the money I raise, the staff of ADAM house would like to purchase some homely furnishings like curtains, gardening tools and plants to go with their new yard. They would also like to take the residents on more outings.

I look forward to working with the other contestants in this event to help promote Tunarama 2011 and the wonderful city of Port Lincoln.
