Jessica Smith

My name is Jessica Smith, and I am honoured to be standing here today as an entrant in the 2019 Tunarama Quest. In partnership with National Pharmacies Im raising much needed funds for a charity that is crucial to so many rural and regional people and their wellbeing. The charity that I have chosen is the royal flying doctor service.

I chose the royal flying doctor service (RFDS) because it is a service that is well utilized in regional Australia, which has helped countless people for over 90 years. So raising funds and awareness for the RFDS is my way of giving back and saying thanks.

For the first 11 years of my life I lived in Murray Bridge and started my schooling career there. When I was 3 years old Mum and Dad added to their little family with the addition of my younger brother Ryan. Then in the year 2000 my father was offered a mangers position of a local piggery in Pinjarra, Western Australia which is about 85km south of Perth. So we packed up and made the move west and started another chapter of our lives. Then in 2002 we moved back to South Australia and settled in Balaklava, to be closer to family.

Then in 2008 my family and I came and visited family friends in port Lincoln, on our holiday Dad was offered a job with a local building company. So again we packed up and moved to Port Lincoln, where Mum started a career in early childhood education and I had graduated year 12 at the Port Lincoln High school.

I currently work at National Pharmacies, Port Lincoln. The vibrant, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff have supported me in every way possible. National pharmacies are not just an everyday pharmacy we offer much more than just medication and have been serving the public for over 100 years nationally and for almost 30 years here in Port Lincoln, with the first store opened in 1911 in Adelaide S.A. National Pharmacies offer quality customer service with knowledgeable team members to provide helpful and relevant information and a range of services like health screenings, flu vaccinations, weight loss programs, Doctors Certificates and so much more. We also have extra pharmacists available to assist you in every way we can.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the local representatives of the RFDS, in particular Noel and Ruth Linsell. From the first meeting I had with them my partner Mitch and I felt like we had known them forever, as they treated us like family. They greeted us with open arms, and it is through spending time with them both that I can truly tell you that the RFDS is in their heart and soul. I have never met 2 people so passionate about a cause they believe in so much and it is truly a credit to them. Noel and Ruth are the kind of people that work so hard for a cause that they believe in and want absolutely nothing in return besides a thankful compassionate smile or a handshake out of respect. In saying that, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Noel and Ruth. It is truly humbling to see the compassion involved in the royal flying doctor service.

Its people like Noel and Ruth that keep the royal flying doctor in the air, continuing to change the lives of so many people right across Australia. So I’m thankful for all the support and donations from so many local businesses and the wider community.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish the entrants in the 2019 quest the best of luck. I encourage you to take some time now to meet the entrants and have a wonderful afternoon, Thank you.
