Joanne Wilkinson

My name is Joanne Wilkinson and I have entered the Quest as Miss Grand Tasman Hotel.  I was born here in Port Lincoln, in 1988.  I grew up in the small township of Wanilla with my three brothers and one sister.  We all went to the Cummins Area School until about 2001 when we uprooted and moved to Streaky Bay.  I completed Year 12 at Streaky Bay Area School in 2006.

About two years about I decided it was time for me to move back to Port Lincoln and I have been working with the wonderful staff at the Grand Tasman Hotel since the day after I moved back to town.  Being a country girl at heart, I fell in love with the friendly country atmosphere the Tasman provides.

The Grand Tasman Hotel has also been kind enough to be my sponsors through the Tunarama Ambassador Quest.  The kind support of my much treasured front bar customers is the reason I decided to take part in the Tunarama Ambassador Quest.

Through the Quest I hope to improve my confidence with public speaking, gain some new experiences and make some new life long friends.

The charity I have chosen to raise funds for is the Eyre Peninsula Red Cross.  The Red Cross has been responding to the needs of vulnerable people in Australia since 1914.  The Eyre Peninsula Red Cross covers 3 townships, 10 council regions and 43,000+ square kilometres.  They also have the support of 111 volunteers.  I really respect and admire the hard work the staff and volunteers of the Red Cross do.

One of the things I most admire about the Eyre Peninsula Red Cross is their services to seniors through Telecross.  Telecross is a daily telephone call provided by a Red Cross volunteer or staff member to check on our most vulnerable community members, which could include younger citizens without close family ties or citizens in rural areas that don’t see or speak with anyone else for a length of time.

I am really looking forward to gaining some new skills and experiences through the
Quest and wish all the entrants a successful journey.
