Rhianna Cherini

My name is Rhianna Cherini, and I am very fortunate to have the support of Priceline Pharmacy in the 2019 Tunarama Ambassador quest. I am also lucky to have such an active committee willing to work hard to raise funds for my charities.

I was born and have lived in Port Lincoln all my life. I currently work for Centacare, a non-for-profit organisation which facilitates multiple programs to assist a range of people in the community. Since starting there, I have been fortunate enough to witness the variety of work they do, including providing vital community support through parenting groups and mental health awareness and support. With extra funding they can help other organisations such as West Coast Youth and Community Support with additional programs.

Over the next six months, with the help of my committee I will be raising funds for Centacare as well as the Sisterhood Foundation. The Sisterhood foundation is made up of five charities.

  • Children’s first foundation, which helps severely ill children get much needed surgery.
  • Dementia Australia who provide information, support, counselling, training and education to people with dementia and their families
  • PANDA, which stands for Post and Antenatal Depression Association. They are a telephone helpline offering women and their families support and information about depression and anxiety during and after pregnancy.
  • Look Good Feel Better helps all Australians surviving with the effect of chemotherapy; this includes hair loss and skin changes.
  • And lastly Raise assists struggling youth with mentor programs and personal development workshops.

Participating in local sports has shown me the value of volunteers in our communities and so I have been giving back to the clubs and associations that I grew up with. I began by coaching younger teams at both club and association levels. I also umpire regularly as well act as an umpire delegate on the committee for my netball club.

In 2013 I represented Port Lincoln with the Moroto exchange program. This experience was invaluable as I learnt about a completely different culture and was able to appreciate the benefits of living in a western culture. It also brought a passion for travel.

Tunarama is an event that benefits the Eyre Peninsula in a unique way. By entertaining all ages Tunarama attracts tourists to show case our local produce while also raising money for local charities. I am so proud and excited to involve myself and others around me in the valued cause.

I am excited for the opportunity that the 2019 Tunarama Ambassador Quest will give me for personal growth and development.
