Scarlett Lukin

My Name is Scarlett Rose Lukin.  I am 21 years old and have lived in Pt Lincoln since I was born. My sister and I have always been close with our family. When my sister was 8 and I was 11 we lost our Father and it left us with holes in our hearts.  Our Father was a skipper and used to work on the boats with his father Stan Lukin, who is now a retired tuna and pilchard fisherman.  We have many beautiful memories of our father who will forever live strong in our hearts.

Life was different now.  My sister and I felt our grandmother Zora Lukin was an amazing woman caring generous and supportive & would regularly invite us over for lunch and take us to the cemetery to see Dad.  She would continuously be recounting beautiful things he would say about us and memories she had for him.

You only know the pain of losing someone you love when you do at the age I was when my father died. I was like everyone at that age and thought dad was going to be around much longer. Something that is very hard to live with.  Over time it made me stronger. To lose our grandmother to cancer six years later was very hard.  Only time could heal the pain. People and life are precious holding on tight to ones love is very important, for sadly people do not live forever.

I decided to enter the Quest because my cousin Krista White was Miss Seahorse Farm in 2002. I looked up to her and thought it looked like a lot of fun. I wasn’t old enough to enter the Quest at this stage and couldn’t wait till I was. Teresa Paynter the owner of the Lincoln Hair Shack, were I am currently  doing my apprenticeship hairdressing, asked me if I was interested  to enter the Quest and I thought it was  a good time to give it a go. So I thought about it for a couple of days and decided to enter.

I am Miss Lincoln Hair Shack in the 2013 Tunarama Quest raising money for the caring Cancer Support Group and the Royal Flying Doctors Service.

I have chosen the Cancer Support Group charity due to them being of great support to a member of my family, knowing the stress and how important it is to have support at these times.

Also the Royal Flying Doctors Service does an amazing job and saves many lives each year. I plan to raise as much money as I can while having fun and interacting with the community as much as possible. I have enjoyed my experiences so far and learnt many things I wouldn’t have without entering the quest. I am proud to be Miss Lincoln Hair Shack 2013 Tunarama Quest entrant.
