Trish Tassie

My name is Trish Tassie and I’m “Miss Pier Hotel” for the Tunarama Quest for 2010.

I’m 19 years old and have lived in Port Lincoln all my life with my mum and two sisters.

I’m currently in my second year as an apprentice chef at the Pier Hotel and now live with my boyfriend of two years Sam.

This Tunarama opportunity arose when my managers at the Pier, Adelle and Theresa asked me if I wanted to be a contender. I thought sure why not, seeing it as a fantastic opportunity to put something back into our community.

The charity I chose to fundraise for is the Red Cross; they are a local organization with international backing. The money I raise will go solely to the Port Lincoln division.

Here in Port Lincoln they provide transport services to the financially and economically disadvantaged.

This is not an easy task to train the drivers, as they go through vigorous training. Most clients are on a disability or old aged pension and can only give what they can to receive the transport from town to town.

Thankfully the Red Cross comes upon generous people who are willing to give up their spare time to drive across the Eyre Peninsula to help these people.

That is only a small part of what they do, considering the national and international scale.

For the past year or so, I have been a blood donor and I donate every three months. So for me, choosing a charity was easy seeing as I was already involved. I admire what the Red Cross do, and I’m proud to have taken that next step into getting involved.

I believe this Quest isn’t only about raising money, although that is a big factor. It’s everything in between, like meeting new people, asking strangers for donations, working out our finances and public speaking.

These are things that some of us may not get to try otherwise.

All of us are looking for personal growth in different shapes and forms and I hope we all find what we are looking for by the end of the year. I think it will be one hell of a year for all three of us and will be something we can look back on for the rest of our lives!!

Thanks for reading!
