Yasmin Retsas

I have lived in Ceduna for 22 years, living with my parents Dino and Sophia, my younger sister Emily and my brother Yanni. Emily is about to return home from Europe where she was visiting family in Greece, while my brother Yanni works with my Dad, marine scale fishing and on the tug boat.

Growing up I was always by the sea which is where my love for the beach came from.  I’ve spent many years travelling along the coast to see my Dad while he was Cray fishing. This meant spending time at Fowlers Bay, Port Lincoln and other coastal towns.

I attended school at Crossways Lutheran School until year 8 and then went on to complete Year 12 at Ceduna Area School.  While attending high school I worked for Jim’s IGA in Thevenard as a service cashier. I studied Certificate 3 in Aged Care which included work experience at the Ceduna Hospital.

In 2008 I moved to Port Lincoln and commenced working for Woolworths as a service cashier. I was asked by my Store Manager David Durdin to take on higher duties, working in the office. This has lead to me becoming the Store Services Officer and Payroll Clerk.

For my future I want to pursue a career in nursing. My mum is an enrolled nurse, nursing and caring for others (hopefully) runs in the family.

My chosen charity is West Coast Youth Services, which provide counselling, entertainment and a broad range of activities for the young people of Port Lincoln.
