Zoey Fordham

Many people within the community of Port Lincoln suffer from mental health illnesses, myself included. Mentally Fit EP aim to raise awareness within our community, reduce stigma and start the conversation about mental health. This is why I Zoey Fordham have chosen the Mentally fit EP as my charity this year throughout my journey as Miss Port Lincoln Hotel for 2018.

Mentally Fit EP run courses such as mental first aid and take charge of your life, which are great initiatives and I was fortunate enough that mentally fit EP covered my costs to attend the mental first aid course. Mentally fit EP is run by some fantastically dedicated people who have taken me under their wing during my journey so far.

I myself am a young bubbly 20 year old that tries to take all the opportunities I can in life. I have spent the majority of my life in the Port Lincoln region where I’ve lived with just my dad and my brother. We lived in Tumby bay from age 7 till 15, where I fortunate enough to then be able to move to Port Lincoln so I could attend Saint Joseph’s school.

Throughout school I played Trombone in many bands and also taught younger students in my free time which was an amazing opportunity. I was exceptionally pleased to be awarded for my contributions to the music department and general school community by winning both the Mary Mackillop award and the Persistence, Dedication and Development award during year 12 in 2014.

During school I was also able to compete in Lions Youth of the Year. This was a journey that I participated in twice and learnt a lot from, and which helped develop my public speaking skills. This has resulted in the confidence for me always put my hand up for public speaking roles whether it was at school, or in the workplace.

After school I headed off to Adelaide to University where I studied a bachelor of science for a year and a half. I began majoring in Geology only to unfortunately find that it wasn’t  what I was passionate about and so I made the decision to return to Port Lincoln at the Hotel.

I just simply love getting out and about and meeting new people, and I’ve found no better opportunity for that than when I’m working at the Port Lincoln Hotel.

Throughout my Tunarama journey I plan to develop many skill sets, from interviews, phone calls, media presentations and more. I am also hoping this journey of discovery allows me to improve my self-confidence and self-esteem so I can become the person I want to be.

I am excited to have the chance to learn more about this wonderful community and the people in it, and I am very thankful for the opportunities that I have been given and plan to use them to the best of my abilities.

I would like to thank everyone for their support, and I wish my fellow amazing entrants all the success in the world as we travel along this journey together.
